How are PERMALITE® aluminium products installed?

PERMALITE® aluminium products are installed in much the same way as other LYSAGHT® cladding products shaped from COLORBOND® steel or ZINCALUME® steel.

Traditional PERMALITE® products such as V-RIB®, WAVELINE®, ALSPAN® and LT-7® are pierce fixed (where the fastener penetrates the sheet) onto the substructure.  In the newer PERMALITE® Premium range ALURE™ is also pierce-fixed whereas PERCIPERE® and PERPETUAL™ use clip fix systems.

Regardless of the fixing system, the use of PERMALITE® cladding in aggressive applications makes it even more critical to take some precautions when selecting appropriate fasteners, as certain metals can negatively react with aluminium. Read the following detailed section on fasteners for more information: What fasteners are used to install PERMALITE® aluminium products?

Similarly, under no circumstances should galvanised steel, ZINCALUME® steel, lead, copper, brass or alloys be placed in contact with PERMALITE®; nor should you permit water to run off from these materials onto PERMALITE® cladding.

Care must also be taken to avoid direct contact with unseasoned or chemically treated timber, lime cement, concrete, mortar or plaster. In most situations, the face of a dissimilar timber support against which the sheeting is fastened, should be painted with chromate-based primers or bituminous paint.

In the case of metal purlins, battens and supports, a good quality adhesive PVC or polyethylene tape with a minimum thickness of 250 microns should be applied. For purlins and girts, PERMALITE® also offer an aluminium EZY-LOK® bridging system with associated accessories – this is similar to steel sections and enables easy detailing and installation.
