WHEN TO CHOOSE COLORBOND® ULTRA STEEL

Falcon Beach House

LYSAGHT® roofing and walling profiles shaped from COLORBOND® steel, have proven themselves time and time again in tough Australian conditions for over 50 years. For the most part, the COLORBOND® steel from which LYSAGHT® profiles are shaped, has these conditions covered.

COLORBOND® steel is manufactured in Australia by BlueScope. The steel base is manufactured to meet applicable Australian Standards ensuring it meets grade and strength requirements. The steel base is then coated with BlueScope’s industry leading metallic coating incorporating Active® technology, which provides enhanced corrosion resistance.

A thin pre-treatment layer is then applied to the steel to optimise the adhesion of further coatings. A corrosion inhibitive primer is then baked onto the surface, and finally the specially developed exterior grade topcoat paint is applied and baked on, providing a finish that is resistant to chipping, flaking, and blistering.

The combined protection provided by this multi-layer coating system ensures LYSAGHT® profiles shaped from standard COLORBOND® steel are suitable for use in a wide range of conditions including in BAL-FZ (Bushfire Attack Level – Flame Zone) areas and even certain near-marine locations (201m-400m distance from breaking surf; 101m-200m distance from calm marine areas).

EXTRA PROTECTION WITH COLORBOND® ULTRA STEEL

For homes in even more challenging locations, COLORBOND® Ultra steel can be used.

COLORBOND® Ultra steel is specially designed for severe coastal environments (100m-200m from breaking surf; 0m-100m from calm marine areas) as well as industrial locations. For industrial areas, COLORBOND® Ultra steel is recommended for homes within 100m to 200m from the source of the industrial emission (fumes and/or particulate fallout).

The extra protection comes courtesy of a more corrosion-resistant metallic-coating of AM150. AM refers to the aluminium/zinc/magnesium alloy that makes up the composition of the coating, while the 150 refers to the minimum grams of coating per square metre.

NEED EVEN MORE PROTECTION FOR YOUR HOME?

Several LYSAGHT® products are also available in SUPERDURA® Stainless steel for even more aggressive environments. Lysaght also offers the PERMALITE® range of aluminium building materials, which is the optimal choice for corrosion protection in severe marine and corrosive environments.
